Former lightweight boxer Kieran Farrell had to quit the sport he loved after suffering a bleed on the brain in his epic English title fight loss against Anthony Crolla in December 2012.
Kieran lost a close decision to Crolla over 10 rounds on points in the fight of the year. After the result was announced, the Heywood boxer collapsed and was rushed to hospital. The following days were touch and go and unless the swelling reduced he was close to having an operation on his brain to save his young life..
Remarkably and due to the fitness and condition Kieran was in, he made a dramatic recovery, but at just 22, his fight career was over.
But it was inevitable that the boxing mad, self proclaimed ‘Viva La Vicious’ was going to stay in boxing in some capacity and with the help of his parents, brothers and friends, he decided to become a boxing coach and has now completed and opened his new gym, where he will look to find the areas new boxing star.
BritishBoxers were at the opening day on June 1, 2013 to see the gym finally completed after plenty of hard work. It is now fitted out with the latest equipment and will be open not only to boxers but for the local community to take part in keep fit and boxercise classes. The gym also boasts a full weights room with the latest equipment.
It has been great to see Kieran turn his dream into a reality and it is testament to his desire and determination that he has succeeded in starting the next part of the Kieran Farrell Story, the Coach and business man and we wish him the very best for the future.
