Both boxers gave everything and it was again an entertaining fight for the fans for twelve gruelling rounds and the result could set up a third meeting between the pair.
The judges scored the fight a draw with two of them having it 114-114 each, with the third edging it in Cardle’s favour, 116-114.
Many people at ringside, including the Sky Sports pundits, expected Dodd to be given the decision after seeing him get stronger as the fight went on.
But Cardle, felt he had done enough in the final championship rounds to retain his British title. Because the fight was declared a draw, it meant Cardle held on to his Lonsdale belt.
