Unbeaten Manchester heavyweight contender Hughie Fury will have to travel to New Zealand to challenge WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker for his belt, after the champions promoters Duco Events won the purse bid with an offer of $3,000,011.

The fight will take place on April 1st in Auckland, giving the champion home advantage against his mandatory challenger. The news was confirmed by the WBO governing bodies president Francisco Varcarcel today who Tweeted; “@DucoEvents wins purse bid @joeboxerparker vs @hughiefury with $3,000,011, bout to take place on April 1st in Auckland, NZ, 60/40 purse split.”

Fury, 22, the cousin of former undisputed heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, will be looking to take the WBO title back to the Fury family, after Tyson was stripped of it recently. If Hughie can pull off the win it will be a mammoth achievement for the Fury’s and in particular Hughie’s coach and father Peter Fury who also steered Tyson to heavyweight acclaim.
