Matchroom Boxing confirmed on Friday morning that Manchester’s Zelfa Barrett will officially fight Shavkat Rakimov of Tajikistan for their vacant super-featherweight title on November 5th in Abu Dhabi.

The belt was stripped from Joe Cordina at the beginning of this month due to the Welshman pulling out of his scheduled defence against Rakimov due to a hand injury. The IBF had no choice but to strip Cordina as a result, having stipulated the Welshman must defend versus Rakimov within ninety days of him fighting for the belt which was held by Kenichi Ogowa at the time. This period was then extended by a further sixty days due to an injury to Cordina’s hand in the wake of his world title success over the Japan man on June 4th.

Rakhimov will now take on the number one contender Barrett on the undercard of Dmitry Bivol‘s light-heavyweight world title defence versus Gilberto Ramirez in the Middle East on November 5th.
