Liverpool light-heavyweight Callum Smith has been forced to withdraw from his March 11th clash with Pawel Stepien after suffering an injury in training.

Matchroom Boxing confirmed the injury in a statement on Thursday evening.

Smith, who was set to fight in his home city’s M&S Bank Arena for the first time since 2019, hoped to overcome Stepien before a fight with unified champion Artur Beterbiev later in the year.

The Liverpudlian is mandatory for Beterbiev’s WBC title at 175lbs.

The severity of the injury remains unclear at the time of writing.

The card has now suffered two major hits after Liam Paro also withdrew from his super-lightweight bout against Liverpool’s Robbie Davies Jr in February.

The latter will now face Australia-based Darragh Foley over twelve rounds in a bout which is set to co-headline the show alongside super-middleweight prospect Diego Pacheco‘s UK debut against Jack Cullen.

Light-heavyweight Central Area champion Mickey Ellison will also rematch Thomas Whittaker-Hart further down the card, while Rhiannon Dixon faces Vicky Wilkinson for the vacant Commonwealth title at lightweight.
