BOXXER have announced that WBO cruiserweight champion Lawrence Okolie will defend his world title against former training partner Chris Billam-Smith on May 27th.

The fight will take place at Billam-Smith’s beloved Bournemouth FC’s Dean Court.

Okolie made the third defence of his title against mandatory challenger David Light in Manchester last week.

The 30-year-old emerged a comfortable winner on all three judge’s scorecards as focus then shifted to landing a big domestic showdown in the summer.

Billam-Smith meanwhile scored a spectacular fifth-round knockout of Armend Xhoxhaj at the Bournemouth International Centre as he honed in on a first shot at world honours.

The Bournemouth man has long spoken of his desire to fight at Dean Court and told Sky Sports he would be open to a bout against Okolie in recent weeks.

The pair recently shared the same trainer in Shane McGuigan before Okolie opted to team up with Sugar Hill Steward before his fight with Light.

Mikael Lawal also defends his British cruiserweight title against Isaac Chamberlain on the undercard.
