Commonwealth welterweight champion Denton Vassell makes the second defence his title against Australian Samuel Colomban at Oldham Sports Centre on Saturday night (12th November)

Unbeaten Mancunian Vassell will be looking to take care of business against the Cameroon born challenger who has won 20 of his 23 fights and is currently on a good streak, winning his last ten contests picking up the WBO Oriental and
Africa titles along the way and he is confident of adding Vassells belt to that collection.

Team Vassell are aware that Colomban will not be an easy nights work and the Ancoats champion’s promoter Ricky Hatton believes his man will be meeting tough opposition in Oldham.
Hatton warned: “This is the biggest fight of Denton’s career – one I expect him to win.”

Vassell, 27, has won all 18 fights and was being lined up for a rematch with Lee Purdy, who
he defeated to become Commonwealth champion in April 2010.

But with Purdy losing his title last week to the ever green Colin Lynes, a match-up between Vassell and the new British champion Lynes is a strong possibility.

“There are several big matches to be made domestically
which adds extra importance for Denton to not only win but win in style,
but make a claim as Britain’s next welterweight star on the world
stage.” Hatton added.

Both fighter weighed in for the fight on Friday – Vassell was bang
on the 10st 7lbs limit. While Colomban scaled 10st
5 & 3/4 lbs
Speaking at the weigh in Colomban said he is determined he won’t have a wasted
trip to the UK and intends to go back down under with Vassell’s belt.
I’m coming to win,” he told Hatton TV. “It is going to be a
great fight but I will be the new champion.”

The fight will be televised live on Sky Sports 2 from 8pm.

Also on the bill is Middlesbrough’s former Commonwealth featherweight champion Paul Truscott who meets Dezzie Higginson over eight rounds.

Other fights: Matty Askin v Roman Kracic, Kieran Farrell v Youssef Al Hamidi, Jazza Dickens v  TBA, Adam Little v Billy Smith and Kieran Maher v TBA
