Great Britain’s three Olympic boxing gold medallsts have been honoured by Sheffield International Venues with a place in its Hall of Champions.
Luke Campbell, Anthony Joshua and Nicola Adams have been inducted into the prestigious Hall of Champions at their home training base – the English Institute of Sport Sheffield.
Giant images of the trio were unveiled at a celebration ceremony and now feature alongside other EIS Sheffield-trained world and Olympic champions, including fellow boxer Savannah Marshall, Nick Matthew, Jessica Ennis, Kelly Holmes, Paul Goodison and Nicola Minichiello.
Nicola Adams said: ‘It feels great to be in the Hall of Champions. Every day when we were training for London 2012 we would walk past and think how amazing it would be to up there alongside Olympic greats like Kelly Holmes.
‘EIS Sheffield is a brilliant venue and definitely helped the GB Boxing team to be so successful, not just this summer, but over the past few years. We have the best facilities, coaches and support staff and this is a great inspiration to the squad to the very best we can be.’
It is the latest in a string of accolades for the Hall of Champions trio after their gold medal winning performances at the 2012 Olympics.
Anthony Joshua and Luke Campbell were jointly named Amateur Boxer of the Year by the Boxing Writers’ Club of Great Britain. Nicola Adams was given the Joe Bromley Award for Outstanding Services to Boxing.
Steve Brailey, chief executive, SIV, said: ‘All three boxers are truly deserving of their places in the Hall of Champions. They did EIS Sheffield and the whole nation proud with their unbelievable performances at London 2012. They are great role models for the youngsters who take part in our boxing sessions in our venues showing what you can achieve when you combine hard work, dedication and talent.’
Earlier this year, Savannah Marshall made the Hall of Champions after becoming World Champion at the age of just 21.
