British Boxers understands that a clash between Liverpool’s WBA Continental super lightweight champion Robbie Davies Jnr, 13-0 (9 KO’s), and former Commonwealth and WBC International title holder John Wayne Hibbert, 17-4 (11 KO’s), could be on the cards.
Davies Jnr, 26, has climbed the WBA rankings this year, beating decent European opposition along the way, but he is eager to test himself against his rivals in the British 10st division. His manager, Neil Marsh, has backed his man and offered Hibbert the opportunity to fight Davies Jnr for the WBA Continental title. Should 31 year old Hibbert’s team accept the offer, the clash is slated for October.
“We think Robbie is the best 140lb fighter in Britain and hopefully the new season will provide him with the opportunities to prove it,” Marsh told British Boxers. “We respect all of the fighters in the division and hopefully some of them will accept the challenge.
“We’re good friends with Team Hibbert and John Wayne is a brilliant fighter, but boxing is a business and hopefully we can reach a deal to bring John Wayne to Liverpool.”
