A city often starved of televised boxing action, Matchroom Boxing head to Birmingham’s Utilita Arena as local flyweight Galal Yafai (4-0, 3KOs) headlines his home city for the first time since turning professional last year.

The 30 year old is set to face former British champion Tommy Frank (15-3-1, 3KOs) over ten rounds for his fifth pro outing.

Yafai entered the paid ranks to much acclaim following his Olympic gold medal success in Tokyo during the summer of 2021.

Buoyed by a wealth of amateur experience, Yafai was set to go the ten-round distance on his pro debut with promoter Eddie Hearn eager to move him quickly.

Yafai stopped his opponent inside five that night but has since endured ten professional rounds, edging a close split-decision victory over Gohan Rodriguez Garcia in November last year.

A fourth-round stoppage was secured in his most recent outing four months ago as the Midlander continues to settle into the professional code.

Frank meanwhile surrendered his British title to Wales’ Jay Harris after ten enthralling rounds in May.

Victory over Yafai this weekend no doubt returns him to the summit of the domestic flyweight division.

Undercard action

Welterweight prospect Cyrus Pattinson (6-0, 4KOs) is set for an intriguing ten-round match-up with Wolverhampton’s Conah Walker (11-2-1, 3KOs).

Newcastle’s Pattinson won a brutal fight of the year contender against Chris Jenkins in March to announce his arrival on the pro scene.

Walker meanwhile lost a close eight-round decision to Kane Gardner in the same month last time out.

Oxford super-featherweight Jordan Flynn (9-0, 1KO) also rematches Birmingham’s Kane Baker (19-10-1, 1KO) following the former’s controversial eight-round points victory in April.

The pair are set for the ten-round distance this time around.

English heavyweight champion and local man Solomon Dacres (6-0, 2KOs) also faces Chris Thompson (12-4-1, 7KOs) over ten rounds, while Coventry middleweight Aaron Bowen (2-0, 1KO) takes on Colombia’s Wilmer Baron (6-1, 5KOs) over six.
