IBF flyweight champion Sunny Edwards (18-0-0, 4KOs) looks to make the third successful defence of his world title on Friday night as he takes on Felix Alvarado (38-2-0, 33KOs) at the Sheffield Arena.

Edwards dominated former champion Moruti Mthalane last year to become world champion.

The Brit has since comfortably outpointed Jayson Mama and Muhammed Waseem via unanimous decision in defence of the IBF title.

Alvarado meanwhile vacated his light-flyweight strap in order to take on the Brit at 112lbs.

The Nicaraguan boasts an impressive knockout record having won 33 of his 38 victories inside the distance so far.

Edwards has spoken of his desire to land a big fight next time out providing he can overcome Alvarado on Friday night.

The Croydon man has long been linked with WBC champion Julio Cesar Martinez.

Friday’s chief support sees a British super-flyweight eliminator between Thomas Essomba (11-7-1, 4KOs) and Marcel Braithwaite (13-3-0).

Both men have shared a ring with Edwards in the past at flyweight.

Essomba is now managed by the flyweight world champion and looks to gain momentum with victory over the Liverpudlian.

Jack Bateson (17-0-0, 4KOs) and Shabaz Masoud (10-0-0, 3KOs) also face-off in an eliminator for the British super-bantamweight title.

The pair have engaged in several verbal spars during the build-up.

With neither man having tasted defeat yet as a pro, the bout is teed up nicely to be one of the more intriguing fights of the night.

A wealth of prospects are also set to feature on Saturday’s undercard.

Middleweight Ishmael Davis (9-0-0, 3KOs) takes on Dustin Ammann (7-7-0, 5KOs) over eight rounds.

Super-bantamweight Lisa Whiteside (4-0-0) is also set to face Eva Cantos (4-8-1).

Tokyo 2020 middleweight gold medalist Hebert Conceicao Sousa (2-0-0, 1KO) clashes with Gideon Onyenani (4-1-0) over six.

Sheffield’s own Nicolie Campbell (9-1-0, 2KOs), who is also managed by Edwards, also features in a six-round super-middleweight clash against Frane Radnic (11-34-0, 10KOs).

The card will be available to watch live on Probellum‘s website.
