Matchroom Boxing have announced that WBA bantamweight champion Nina Hughes will now face Walsall’s Katie Healy (6-0-0) on June 10th.

Essex’s Hughes was initially set to face former world champion Shannon Courtenay at Wembley Arena before the latter withdrew earlier this week.

Hughes responded to Courtenay’s withdrawal on Monday, accusing her of ‘bottling it’ due to struggling to make weight.

In response to the announcement of Healy as her new opponent, Hughes reacted with a simple message: “New opponent, same goal!! Big thanks to all my sponsors for all there support.”

Healy has won all six of her professional contests so far since crossing over from the sport of kickboxing where she was crowned world champion on three occasions.

The 25-year-old responded to the news earlier today on social media, writing: “Eeekkk the news is out – absolutely buzzing for this!! Team Healy…Let’s go!!”.

The fight will be Hughes’ first defence of her title since becoming champion with a unanimous decision victory over Jamie Mitchell in November.

Elsewhere on the card, IBF flyweight champion Sunny Edwards headlines in his first fight since signing with Matchroom against Chile’s Andres Campos.

Ellie Scotney also challenges for Cherneka Johnson‘s IBF super-bantamweight crown, while Cheavon Clarke takes on David Jamieson in a final eliminator for the British cruiserweight title currently held by Mikael Lawal.
