Once in a while a boxer comes along who ticks all the boxes and stands out from the rest. Their aura shines brighter under the glare and the ring lights seem to bounce off there skin and fancy tassels more so than the other fighters on the bill. Their punches have more snap on connection and the impact of their shots echo around the arena followed by woos and ha’s from the crowd and you just know you have witnessed someone special. Well that is the unbeaten ‘Baby Faced Assassin’ Paul Butler. At domestic level he rules the roost and there isn’t an abundance of challengers lining up capable of worrying him. The main concern to his British title will be former stand out amateur Kal Yafai the up and coming prospect from Birmingham (10-0). But Butler may vacate the British title and move forward now with bigger fights being lined up for him and a potential world title shot. The Ellesmere Port star will headline promoter Frank Warren’s return to Liverpool on March 1 at the Equestrian Centre at Aintree where he will defend his WBO and WBA Intercontinental titles at super-flyweight. But recently Butler has spoken about moving up to Bantamweight to chase a fight with Darlington’s new IBF world champion Stuart Hall before the summer. Hall won the vacant world crown in December against Vusi Malinga and Butler having sparred with Hall, is confident he would have a good chance against him. Butler is trained in Manchester by former fighter Arnie Farnell and has recently also employed the help of a strength and conditioning coach and is revamping his diet in order to make him as strong as possible for a potential showdown with Hall. Butler does not see any move up to bantamweight as a long-term plan in his career and insists he will campaign at his normal weight even after a fight with Hall. Butler has heaps of class and the X Factor to shine in his chosen sport, a world champion in the making. Paul Butler on Twitter: @1PaulButler
