After returning to the gym, Kell Brook’s (40-3, 28 KOs) trainer Dominic Ingle has revealed that he is interested in a match up with Connor Benn (21-0, 14 KOs).
Benn responded to this tweeting: “Last time we tried to make the fight he chose retirement instead. Must have been that sparring session….”
In the tweet the 26 year old welterweight infers that he caused problems for Brook in sparring , and that Brook chose not to fight him and ultimately retire from the sport.
Brook has been in retirement since his fight with Amir Khan (34-6, 21 KOs) last February -who he beat in the 7th round of their highly anticipated grudge match. However , he has openly admitted he is struggling away from the sport and is now looking likely to make a return.
Brook has now responded to Benn’s tweet : “who are you kidding your the one who cut the sparring short don’t flatter yourself p****”

In terms of weight, the fight would be ideal due to both men fighting at welterweight. The fights marketability is also undeniable, with the pair been big domestic names likely to attract British boxing fans in abundance to the spectacle-from both up north and down south.
However , the bout does also partly rely on Benn’s doping situation to be resolved in the meantime if it is to occur in the UK and be licensed under the British Boxing Board of Control. On the other hand, the bout may not be held in the UK as Benn’s promoter Eddie Hearn has recently revealed that he may fight in either America or the Middle East in June.
Could the Benn fight see Brook make a return to boxing?
